Politics and the Justice System of the United States of America (USPOLJUST)

Brief Overview

The research project titled “Politics and the Justice System of the United States of America” (USPOLJUST; acronym of United States POLitics and JUStice) begun at CEDLAW on January 2023, with Dr. Alexandros Kyriakidis, who drafted the research proposal, as the Principal Investigator.

The project includes research, teaching and dissemination activities related to the political and judicial system of the United States of America (USA), with an emphasis on the federal level and its relationship primarily to the State level and, secondarily, to the local level, from a theoretical and an empirical point of view. The program also includes comparative approaches with other political and judicial systems, mainly with the European Union (EU), its Member States (e.g., Greece), and the United Kingdom, but also the creation of a Hub for all of the above along with a wide range of existing relevant actions and collaborations between Greece and the USA.

The main objectives of the program are: a) the collection of all existing relevant actions (research, collaborations, projects, etc.); which include collaborations between Greek institutions and US institutions; b) research related to the aformentioned subjects; c) the dissemination of the results of the above research through a wide range of activities, such as publications (academic articles, academic blogs, media articles, etc.), teaching (e.g., lectures in under/postgraduate courses, seminars for PhD candidates), academic events (e.g., conferences, workshops, lectures by visiting professors or researchers), and d) collaborations with corresponding domestic and/or foreign institutions.
