About

The Centre for Research on Democracy and Law (CEDLAW) is a fully autonomous Laboratory of the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Macedonia, created on 11 May 2020 (Government Gazette B’ 1784/11.05.2020). Professor Ioannis Papadopoulos has been appointed as the first Director of CEDLAW for a 3-year term (Government Gazette YOD 593/06.08.2020), and Research Fellow of CEDLAW Dr. Alexandros Kyriakidis has been  appointed as the first Head for Operations and Research (01.12.2020 decision of the above Department’s Faculty meeting). The Laboratory evolved from the previous Research Unit “European Policies and Democracy” (EUPOLDEM), which was established in July 2017 within the Institute of International, Defense & European Analyses of the above Department. CEDLAW addresses educational and research needs on the following subject areas: democratic theory and democracy as a political system, political theory and philosophy, public and private law, governance at a theoretical and practical level, citizens’ rights, and institutions and policies of the European Union (excluding security, defense, foreign policy and international relations), at a national, supranational or international level.
